Awesome Alley

A thank you to the lovely ladies at Scotia United Methodist Church! I had the honor of being their speaker at a recent Woman’s Group meeting, sharing my writing journey and introducing my new story in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Tough Times. An enjoyable evening discussing writing and the power of words, both written and spoken. I passed out index cards at the close of the meeting, which they willingly filled out – with names of friends going through tough times. And the commitment to share words of comfort and hope to them this week. This photo only shows a portion of the group, sorry ladies – I forgot my camera that night! We had over 20 women, a wonderful turnout.

What is your story for Awesome Alley?

Did you have an article accepted this week?

A call back from an agent?

Maybe you finally got up the nerve to actually submit to a magazine or newspaper. Whatever good news you have, please do share it with us. First, the writing news. Then, if you want to share a goal you’ve achieved, go ahead!

AND – if I receive comments from at least 20 individuals, I will compile the names and randomly choose a winner for a free copy of the Chicken Soup Devotional book. So refer your friends to Lovely Lane! (please leave your email in comment so I may contact you if you win)

  3. Nothing new here, but there is much to be thankful for. I have a Bible study published, “Trusting God Through Troubles & Tears.” And I keep busy being a columnist for three newspapers and a biweekly radio program that consists of four minute devotionals. Congrats Cynthia on being published by Chicken Soup!

  4. Hi Cynthia – congratulations on your newest Chicken Soup story!!!!
I submitted a query letter to Southern Lady Magazine and received a reply. They are going to consider my article suggestion at their next planning meeting for upcoming issues! This will be a great way to get into a large magazine and I’m on my way!!

I loved looking at the picture of The Scotia Ladies Group. Congratulations. Now for me I have sent in my short story Sisters to Glimmertrain Publications and am waiting for an answer.

  6. My wonderful news is that I’ve signed with an agent, the wonderful Barbara Scott of WordServe Literary! I met her at a conference a couple of years ago when she was the senior acquisitions editor for Abingdon Press. I feel very blessed to have her as my agent, representing my first novel, a historical romance.

Congratulations, Jacie on 4 books! That’s awesome! Thanks, Cynthia for a chance to share!

  7. Many congrats on your Chicken Soup story! I can hardly wait to read it. I suppose writing and speaking go hand in hand. If you speak as well as you write….look out world!

    Have a great Thanksgiving!

  10. Cindy,
I remember all those struggles at conference and the desire to find the right direction for your book. And now you have the beautiful completed result – I love the cover. You seem to continue to pick up newspaper columns – I still think you need to write your own book of devotions : )

  14. Thanks, Kathy. I totally enjoyed that evening sharing my writing journey. Unexpected surprise. Just love talking about writing and all that God has done in that area of my life. And congrats on your recent article in Pentecostal Herald, can you send me a copy?

  15. What a great blog for Thanksgiving week, Cynthia. I haven’t shared this tidbit with anyone because it seems like such small potatoes, but I did submit a short article for my company’s newsletter. I heard back from the editor and she has agreed to publish my piece for the December issue. Maybe if I compile enough small potatoes it will be enough to make a side dish. LOL But seriously, I am thankful for even this modest encouragement.
Wishing every one a blessed Thanksgiving tomorrow!

  17. Kathleen,
Three words stood out in your comment: submit, editor and publish. All key words with the hoped for ending – PUBLISH! So it’s not a small thing, it’s great news. And you never know where it will lead to next. Congrats!

  21. Congratulations on your publication in Chicken Soup. I have a story coming out in the Dec. 25th issue of Live. The format for that issue is beautiful. I’m also having some articles picked up in a weekly on-line newsletter. A comment for Kathleen, there are no small potatoes when it comes to publishing, just jewels readers are looking for. Congratulations! I am excited for you. I know your piece sparkles and shines!

  22. Jean D.,
So glad you stopped by. I had a story in the Dec. 18th issue of LIVE and received the packet. I just went back to find your story in the same packet. You did a great job with “Nelly’s Gift” and I loved the ending. Plus the story is featured on the cover, how cool! And congrats on the articles for the newsletter, sounds like things are really moving along for you.
